Wendy Hookham

Wendy Hookham – Pilates Instructor

I was a junior school teacher for ten years at St Andrew’s School and in 2002 took up Pilates to mobilise and relieve pain from an older shoulder injury. I realised the programme produced many positive results, improving posture, streamlining and strengthening the whole body. This experience began my passion for Pilates.

I had a rigorous training in Pilates Matwork (based on the Classical series of exercises) by Paul Anthony Mclinden at Ocean Wave Pilates Studio (2005). He is a highly respected, experienced teacher who was a senior class tutor at Body Control Pilates. I later returned for Equipment and Studio training.

“I have attended Wendy Hookham’s Pilates classes for 2 years. I have a long standing back problem. Pilates was recommended to me by Orthopaedic and Rheumatology colleagues.

My back pain, muscle strength and mobility have improved greatly since starting Pilates with Wendy. She has a good, clear style of instruction which is also fun!!

I now recommend Wendy and Pilates to my patients-of all ages and with many and varied medical problems.”

“I have been attending the Natural Fitness Centre since it opened. I find Pilates has improved my long-term back problems and Wendy has the ability to allow you to progress at your own pace while checking at all times on individual technique – the sign of a good teacher.”

“I began attending my Pilates class 3 years ago. Wendy has been my teacher throughout this time.
My reason for wanting to start Pilates was, as I am growing older, 52, I wanted to remain supple and upright.

Each lesson I attend we always do slightly differently which means throughout the three years I have been going to Wendy’s class I have never once felt bored with the exercises we do. I am now feeling muscles which I thought I would never feel again which is wonderful and I more often than not hear Wendy’s voice in my head if I am not standing properly.

I love the class as we have grown to know each other and there is now a true feeling of camaraderie.

There is no competition as to who can do the the best as the exercises are muscle work and only you know how hard you are working”.

I would and have recommended Pilates to anyone, Wendy is a brilliant teacher, she gives us individual attention and makes you feel as if she really cares about us getting it right for ourselves.

Wendy is enthusiastic and with her changing the exercises routines the classes remain interesting, fun and very enjoyable together with making a real difference about how we look.
