Clive Pugsley – Yoga Teacher
MY PERSONAL VIEW
Learning to leave our busy physical and emotional lives behind and truly relax is one of the most precious gifts we can teach ourselves. If I can help people re-discover this sense of inner calm through yoga, even in a small way, I am a happy man.
I trained to teach in the Sivananda school of yoga with the most respected teachers of this tradition. I gained my qualification in 2004 and have been teaching yoga at the natural Fitness Centre since then.
ABOUT ME AND MY PRACTICE
My first interest in body / mind disciplines led me to explore karate, aikido and later tai chi, chi gong and shiatsu. I stumbled across yoga accidentally and it came as quite a surprise to me when almost immediately I had an amazing feeling of coming home. That was the beginning of a passion that eventually led me to learn to teach yoga 7 years ago. Of course I cannot even begin to imagine life without yoga now.
Over the years my yoga practice has developed to include other approaches and key to this was being fortunate enough to train under Sarah Powers, a leading exponent of Yin Yoga. This approach to yoga includes elegant flowing tai chi like movements which gently stretch and invigorate the whole body, and passive floor postures which work deeper into the body, nourishing and strengthening the connective tissues of the joints as well as the muscles.
My classes follow a similar sequence of supine, seated and standing postures each week which will become familiar very quickly if you are new to yoga. The class will improve posture, strength, flexibility and balance. Some postures and movements are more physically challenging, others are more gentle and meditative providing a rounded practice to relax and energise.
“I have been attending Clive’s yoga classes since summer 2006 and have thoroughly enjoyed myself. The classes are always friendly and relaxed, instructions are clear and easy to follow. Definitely have gained physically and mentally, highly recommended!”
